How to keep eyeglasses from sliding down your nose?

08 Nov 2024

If you're tired of constantly pushing up your glasses, you're not alone! Glasses slipping down is a common issue, especially when looking down for activities like housework or exercise. Instead of being a helpful vision tool, they become a distraction.

In this blog, we'll go over the possible reasons why your glasses may be sliding and provide solutions to keep them in place so you can go about your day comfortably and distraction-free.

1. Oversized frames: If the glasses frame is too big or wide for your face, it may not stay in the position.

How to resolve: Check the frame width or try on the frame if possible. You can also measure the width of your current glasses as a reference to help you select a frame that fits properly next time.

2. Extra heavy glasses: This may be caused by the frame weight or lens weight or even both. The gravity will make the glasses more possible to fall from your face; and it will not be a comfortable experience for long time wear.

How to resolve: Opt for lightweight frame materials like TR90 or titanium, which are more comfortable to wear. If you have a strong prescription, consider high-index lenses like 1.67 or 1.74, as they are thinner and lighter.

3. Loose screws: Loose screws cause the temples to shift outward, giving glasses more chance to slide.

How to resolve: Use an eyeglasses repair kit or a very small screwdriver to gently tighten the hinge screws. We offer free screwdrivers for your glasses, you may use them at your convenience.

4. Misaligned temples: When you open the glasses arms, place them on a flat surface. If the temples aren’t lying parallel, this indicates misalignment. Uneven temples can cause your glasses to sit unevenly on your face, leading to slipping or tilting.

How to resolve: Locate the temple that’s angled upward, and gently bend it downward at the hinge to level it with the other side. This adjustment can help your glasses sit evenly on your face, reducing the chance of slipping.

5. Unbent temples: The temples, which hold your glasses behind your ears, need a proper bend at the ends to keep them securely in place. If the curve isn't sufficient, your glasses may slip down, especially when you look downward.

How to resolve: You can try adjusting your glasses at home or use helpful tools like anti-slip ear hooks. To adjust the temple arms, warm them slightly with a hairdryer or warm water. With the frames facing you, place your index finger under the bent part of the temple. Gently push the temple end down with your other hand. Repeat on the other side to ensure both temples are even.

6. Improperly adjusted nose pads: Nose pads work as the holder to keep your glasses from slipping down; if they are too fall apart, then your eyebrows may touch the lens and the glasses may slip down.

How to resolve: For adjustable nose pads, you may readjust the nose pads to make it fit on your face, while for those fixed to the frame rims glasses, we advise you to use hacks like anti-slip nose pads to wrap them.

7. Oily skin: If your skin is oily, your glasses are more likely to slip down your nose.

How to resolve: Eyewear wax, like Nerdwax, is a great option for glasses that slip due to oily skin. These waxes are designed to create friction and keep glasses in place. Rub a small amount on the nose bridge and nose pads. This will help anchor your glasses on your face.

Slipping glasses don’t have to be an ongoing problem. With the right adjustments and products, you can achieve a secure, comfortable fit. Whether it’s adjusting the nose pads, using silicone grips, or opting for temple tips, there are plenty of options to help keep your glasses in place. Try these hacks and see which solution works best for you—no more constant adjusting, just clear and comfortable vision.
